Baptist Hospital East has a long-term commitment to quality, focusing on improving our processes to further enhance patient satisfaction and safety.

A number of physician and staff teams regularly scrutinize patient care at Baptist East, searching for ways to create efficiencies while delivering the exceptional care for which the hospital is known.

The hospital’s Executive Quality Council serves as a hub for these quality improvement activities, launching new teams and regularly receiving reports from working teams. Hospital departments may also form teams to pinpoint ways to better care for patients.

Patients experience the successes firsthand. The Code C and Code D teams – rapid response efforts to whisk heart attack and stroke patients from the Emergency Room to treatment – meet, and often exceed, national standards of care.

Current efforts include the Rapid Response Team for reduction of patient “codes” by proactive intervention.
There are nearly 50 Web sites offering hospital quality information, from national organizations such as the The Joint Commission to private insurers.

The Kentucky Hospital Association also has a Web site that reports utilization, hospital charge comparisons and quality data.

Patients often seek credible sources of information to learn about hospitals before they receive care. One source of objective, consistent hospital quality data online is the Hospital Compare Web site. This Web site from the Hospital Quality Alliance is the result of a partnership between the healthcare industry and the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services.

Baptist East is one of 4,500 hospitals nationwide to voluntarily provide quality data for 17 measures for heart attack, heart failure and pneumonia. Measures on the Web site reflect the percentage of time hospital staff follow best practices for care.

Hospital Compare is a starting point in collecting and sharing information on quality of care. It will continually evolve. In the future, the site will contain additional quality measures and patient satisfaction survey results.
