Baptist East receives 100 Top Hospitals Performance Improvement Leaders 2006 award

Baptist Hospital East in Louisville, Ky., and Baptistth100top_pil2006_web Hospital Northeast in La Grange, Ky., have been named among Thomson Healthcare's "Thomson 100 Top Hospitals Performance Improvement Leaders" for 2006.

The hospitals were recognized by the healthcare information company for the fastest and most consistent performance improvement from 2001 to 2005, based upon an analysis of Centers for Medicare and Medicaid data. This is the second year for Baptist East to be recognized.

Baptist East, in addition to being among the top 100 most-improved hospitals, was also included among the 20 large community hospitals (250 or more beds) that showed the most improvement, along with St. Joseph Hospital in Lexington. Baptist Northeast was recognized as one of 20 small community hospitals (25 to 99 acute-care beds).

Other Kentucky hospitals selected were the University of Kentucky Albert B. Chandler Medical Center (major teaching hospitals division); and Ephraim McDowell Regional Medical Center in Danville, St. Joseph East in Lexington and Murray-Calloway County Hospital in Murray, all in the medium community hospitals division (100 to 249 acute-care beds).

The list has been compiled annually by Thomson Healthcare (formerly Solucient) since 1993. It was published in the Aug. 6 issue of Modern Healthcare magazine.

Objective statistical national comparisons were used to measure improvement of clinical outcomes, patient safety, efficiency, financial stability and growth, according to Thomson Healthcare.
