Sleep disorders can disrupt the amount and quality of sleep a person receives. They can be caused by any number of things, including stress at home or work, or a sudden change in the amount of sleep a person gets, a change in daily schedule or other physical factors.
The Baptist Hospital East Sleep Disorders Center is designed to help people discover the cause of their sleeplessness, and determine the most effective treatment options available to them.
Treatment includes:
- A consultation appointment to gather information about sleep and medical history;
- A sleep study may be done to monitor sleep stages, breathing patterns, heart activity, blood oxygen levels and body movements. Sleep studies are scheduled during your normal sleeping period.
The specialists at the Sleep Disorders Center will evaluate test results and treatment recommendations will be discussed with you and your primary care physician for long-term care.
Baptist East’s Sleep Disorders Center has recently added a pediatric component to meet the growing need for sleep studies for children ages 5 and up. To diagnose a sleeping disorder for younger patients, the Sleep Disorders Center performs a variety of tests while children stay overnight with a parent or guardian. Rooms are furnished with kid-friendly touches such as stuffed animals and TV/DVDs for watching a favorite movie. Throughout the night, everything from sleep position to eye movement and breathing patterns are closely observed to determine an accurate diagnosis.
The Sleep Disorders Center is fully accredited by the American Academy of Sleep Medicine and features eight private sleeping suites. Each suite has a full-size bed, cable television, shower and restroom facilities - all of the conveniences of being at home, in a quiet, restful environment.
Take a simple sleep disorders quiz to help you determine if you might need a sleep study.
