Choosing a rehabilitation facility

Selecting a rehabilitation facility that best meets a patient’s needs is a decision that must be made by the patient, in conjunction with his or her physician and/or a rehabilitation admission nurse. Depending on the patient’s type of illness or injury -- along with its severity -- there are specific guidelines that must be followed to determine if the patient is an appropriate candidate for rehabilitation. Baptist East’s admission nurses can offer guidance to patients in planning their rehab experience, as well as discuss insurance benefits for acute rehabilitation.

Patients also should have an understanding of whether an acute or subacute rehabilitation facility best meets their needs. On an acute rehab unit, a rehab physician manages patients’ recovery with the rehab team on a daily basis. In addition, as an accredited acute care rehab facility, Baptist East provides patients at least three hours of therapy a day (compared to only one to two hours provided by sub-acute centers).

Once these criteria are determined, however, the choice is up to the       patients and their families. If you have questions or concerns about your    rehab decision, please call Baptist East Rehabilitation Admissions at         (502) 896-7467. We’ll be happy to provide you with more information -- including a tour of our unit -- to help you with your decision ... and the return to your daily activities.

The Baptist Hospital East Rehabilitation Program is accredited by the Rehabilitation Accreditation Commission (CARF) and the Joint Commission on Accreditation of Healthcare Organizations (JCAHO).
