Aquatic exercise for MS patients

A recent study by researchers at the University of Utah demonstrated the benefits of exercise for people with multiple sclerosis. Those patients who participated in an aerobic exercise program had better cardiovascular fitness, better bladder and bowl function, less fatigue and depression, a more positive attitude and increase participation in social activities. According to the National Multiple Sclerosis Society, aquatics -- exercise in water -- is often recommended because it provides optimal exercise conditions for the person with MS.

At the Baptist East/Milestone Wellness Center, MS Aquasize is a cool water exercise class geared to those with MS. The class includes stretching with a full range of motion and toning. A doctor's note is required to exercise.

The class is free to Wellness Center members, and available to non-members by purchasing packages of five or 10 classes. For more information, or to receive a class schedule, call (502) 896-3900 ext. 302 or visit the Wellness Center online.
