The Security Department at Baptist Hospital East has highly trained Security Officers who provide a safe and secure environment on all campus properties.

Security Officers spend most of their shift patrolling throughout the campus providing customer service to patients or visitors, checking and reporting safety hazards, enforcing hospital policies, working with local government agencies and reacting to numerous emergency preparedness incidents.

Baptist Hospital East’s campus is a full-service facility that covers more than 1.6 million square feet. Not only does the department provide security services for the main hospital, but also provides security services to five medical office buildings, one childcare center, a corporate office building and the hospital’s employee-parking garage.

Employment/Advancement opportunities

Typical job opportunities in the Security Department are:

  • Security Manager is responsible for the day-to-day operations of the security department. This individual is tasked to oversee the security program making sure the department is staffed, training is completed, and the facility protected.
  • Lead Officer is responsible for supervising his or her shift, to ensure the safety and security of the campus and to ensure all assigned duties have been completed. The Lead Officer is selected from entry-level security officers who have shown leadership qualities and ability to assume responsibilities of the Lead Officer.
  • Relief Lead Officer assumes the duties of the Lead Officer during their absence, normally on weekends, holidays, days off, etc.
  • Security Officer is an entry-level position. Each security officer is trained specifically in healthcare security using the guidelines from the International Association for Healthcare Security and Safety (IAHSS). At this level many officers will decide to focus their security career in healthcare security and receive entry-level certification from IAHSS.

Staffing: The department is staffed 24-hours each day, seven days a week, with all eight-hour shifts. Full-time and part-time positions are available.

Equipment: Some of the equipment the department uses on a daily basis includes access control systems, closed circuit televisions with digital video recorders, tour watch system, company and department vehicles and scanners.
